Observed (“In Lieu Of”) Rules
For most federal employees: if a holiday falls on Saturday, the holiday is observed on the preceding Friday; if it falls on Sunday, it is observed on the following Monday. These rules determine the actual office closure date.
Planning a visit to an IRS office? Always confirm hours and appointment availability—local conditions or special events can affect hours even on non-holiday days.
