An Introduction - Trade License in Cochin Corporation

D & O Trade License is a permission or license issued by the local government like Panchayat, Municipality or Municipal Corporation to the business establishments for carry out commercial activities in its local limits. If any one required to set up a business place or office at any where in India, they must register their business name in the local government and must obtain a trade license certificate. This certificate Commonly known as D & O License. In most cases the Health Department of the Concerned authority issued the Trade License. Trade License is a  promise by the business establishment to the concerned government against the sale of prohibited goods, drugs, offensive goods and pollution.

Every business establishments who have physical presence in India, even if an Office must obtain two registrations mandatory before starting commercial  activities or appointing an employee  a) Trade License,  b) Shop and Establishment License or Gumasta License issued by the Labour Commissionerate. These two registrations are applicable to all forms of business like sole proprietorship, partnership firms, private companies, llp and other non profit organizations. Every business enterprises in the limits of Cochin Municipal Corporation (also known as GCDA, Greater Cochin Development Authority) must register for D & O Trade License issued by the GCDA.

  • PFA License Required ( Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, Now it Known as FSSAI ( Food Safety and Standards Authority of India )

Step 3 : Then Select the Category / Nature of Business

  • List of Product / Services your are Dealing

  • Projected Quantity of Product / Services

  • Projected Amount of Product / Services

Step 4 : Application Details

  • Type of Applicant

  • Name of Applicant

  • Designation of Applicant

  • Photo of Applicant

Step 5 : Residential Address - Details of Applicant

  • House Name

  • Flat Name/Residence Association

  • Ward Number

  • Building Number

  • Street Name

  • Locality

  • Place

  • Post Office

  • Pin Code

  • District

  • State

  • Country

  • Preferred Mode of Communication

  • Telephone Number

Step 7 : Ownership Details

  • Building Number

  • Type of Building

  • Building Ownership

  • Rent per Month

  • Owners Name

  • Received Consent of the Owner?

  • Consent valid till

Step 8: Fetch Tax Details

Step 9 : Building Address Details

  • Area of the building in square feet

  • Street Name

Step 9 : Documents Details - Documents Required to Attach

  1. Affidavit regarding plastic and place name on Rs. 200/- stamp paper

  2. Agreement if Building is rental

  3. Applicant's ID proof

  4. Applicant's Address proof

  5. Building Owner consent on Rs. 200/- stamp paper

  6. Copy of building tax receipt for the current year

  7. Filed Application form with phone number pasted with Rs. 5/- court fee stamp ( from NagraSabha)

  8. Board Resolution / AOA/ MOA (In case of Private / Public Company)

  9. Authorization Letter - Company Letterhead (In case of Partnership / LLP)

Step 10 : Submit the Application

After Submission of Application you will get a Acknowledgement - Take a printout and submit it on the concerned circle office Health Inspector within two days.

Step 11: Physical Verification of building by Health Inspector

Step 12: Submission of Field Verification Report by Health Inspector

After physical verification, Health Inspector submit the report to the Kochi Corporation Secretary. Based on the remarks received from the Health inspector, Secretary takes a decision whether license is to be granted or not.

You can also check the status of License Application Online by entering Application Number in the Acknowledgement. If license is granted you can pay the Corporation Tax.

Step 13 : Payment of Tax

If License is granted, the Applicant can pay the Corporation Tax online by the Option " Make Payment"

Step 14 : Issue of License

After Payment you can get the License Number - You can take the soft copy of license with Option " Search License " or otherwise can get the Physical Print of the License from the Concerned Circle office with 15 Working Days.
